my Chinchilla

My Chinchilla is getting quite fat, due to there isn’t so much space in his Cage, and I can’t let him out so often, once in a day or something.. because all the time I need to watch him, he can damage something with his teeth, I don’t know what to do, fat chinchilla’s aren’t really very healthy. Maybe to feed him not so frequently ? 
I am getting fat myself, before the exams I quite all the sporting and spend most of my time near the computer and books.
